The GLAAD Wrap: Final seasons announced for ‘Pose’ and ‘Special;’ new music from Chika and Miley Cyrus; Marvel and DC announce pride comics; and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Bros, the romantic comedy starring and written by out comedian Billy Eichner, has announced that it will be released on August 12, 2022. The film follows two gay men with commitment issues attempting to be in a relationship and will be released by Universal as one of the first big budget romantic comedies centering a gay relationship.

2) My Policeman, the upcoming film starring Harry Styles and produced by Greg Berlanti, has rounded out the cast. Styles stars as bisexual character Tom, and his lover, Patrick will be played by David Dawson. Linus Roache will play the older version of Tom, and Rupert Everett will play the older Patrick, in the story about the two reunited in the future, and their history back when homosexuality was illegal in the UK.

3) Patti Harrison, the out trans comedian known for her work on Shrill and Sundance film Together, Together has been cast in upcoming comedy The Lost City of D, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. Harrison’s role is still under wraps. In more casting news, out actress Kiersey Clemons has been cast in the upcoming DC movie The Flash, as Iris West, the love interesting of the titular Barry Allen (out actor Ezra Miller). The Flash will be released on November 4, 2022.

4) GLAAD Media Award-winning and groundbreaking drama Pose has announced that this upcoming season will be its last. The season will premiere on May 2 and have its series finale on June 6. Pose made history with its cast of queer and trans characters of color, telling their stories with talent on and behind the camera.

5) The second season of Netflix’s Special has also been announced to be its last. The GLAAD Media Award-winning show, created by and starring out actor Ryan O’Connell as a gay man with cerebral palsy will have eight 30-minute episodes for the second season, which will be released on the streaming platform on May 20.

6) Upcoming queer vampire Netflix series First Kill has cast its leads. Sarah Catherine Hook will play Juliette, a vampire who has to make her first kill, and Imani Lewis will play Calliope, the girl Juliette sets her sights on. However, things get complicated when Calliope turns out to be from a long line of slayers and two begin to develop feelings for each other. A premiere date has been set for Them, a new Amazon Prime series from creator Little Marvin and out producer Lena Waithe. The anthology horror show follows a Black family who leaves North Carolina for an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood. It will premiere on April 9.

7) Out actor Jonathan Groff has been cast to voice the lead in upcoming Netflix family series Lost Ollie, where he plays Ollie, a lost toy searching for the boy he used to belong to. In more casting news, out Queer Eye host Karamo Brown has been cast in the third season of TBS’ Miracle Workers as new character Lucas. Queer trans filmmaker Lilly Wachowski has teamed up with OTV Studios to create career paths for LGBTQ and BIPOC creatives in the film and television history. Lesbian filmmaker Angela Robinson has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Television Group to produce scripted content on their platforms.

8) Out rapper and GLAAD Media Award nominee Chika released her second EP Once Upon a Time on Friday. Listen to the fairy tale themed EP here! Queer singer Miley Cyrus has released a music video for her single “Angels Like You,” of off her most recent album, Plastic Hearts. Watch the video below.

9) Queer singer-songwriter Allison Ponthier released her debut single “Cowboy” on Monday, as well as an accompanying music video. The song tells the journey of accepting her sexuality and moving from Texas to New York. Listen to the song here and watch the video below!

10) Marvel has announced a Pride Special, Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1. The anthology series will highlight queer Marvel characters and feature work from LGBTQ writers and artists, including Kieron Gillen, Olivier Coipel, Steve Orlando, Anthony Oliveira, Tini Howard, Vita Ayala, Kris Anka, Javier Garrón, Allan Heinberg, Leah Williams, Mariko Tamaki, Terry Blas, Crystal Frasier, J.J. Kirby, Luciano Vecchio, Jethro Morales, Britney Williams, Jan Bazaldua, Jen Hickman, Jim Cheung, and more. It will hit shelves on June 23.

11) DC Comics have also announced a pride anthology series. DC Pride will be released on June 9 and features queer and trans DC heroes by artists and writers from the LGBTQ community. Nicole Maines, the actress who plays trans hero Dreamer, will write a Dreamers comic for the anthology. Other features stories include Batwoamn, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, a non-binary Flash, and more.
