1) Oscar nominee and out actress Ariana DeBose will play Calypso in upcoming Marvel film Kraven The Hunter. Kraven is among Marvel’s most iconic and notorious antiheroes who has encountered Venom and Black Panther among many others as well as being one of Spider-Man’s best-known and most-formidable enemies. As for Calypso, she is a voodoo priestess who utilizes magic potions, and besides being an adversary of Spider-Man, she is also the occasional partner and lover of Kraven.

2) Out queer actress Kiersey Clemons will star in The Young Wife. A sunny day panic attack and a wholly new take on the wedding film, the movie follows a woman over the course of her ‘non-wedding’ day as she grapples with the meaning of love and commitment in the face of an uncertain and tumultuous world. In more casting news, out actors Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff have just been cast in the new M. Night Shymalan thriller, Knock at the Cabin. Details about the film are still unknown.

3) The trailer for season two of iCarly has dropped! Carly refocuses her attention on her friends and family following her romantic complications, all while working to boost her revived web channel. Spencer and bisexual character Harper (played by out bisexual actress Laci Mosley) must also navigate new personal and career developments, while Freddie balances raising Millicent with a new app and a new girlfriend. 4) Acclaimed comedy Sort Of has been renewed for a second season. Out queer and trans co-creator Bilal Baig stars as genderfluid millennial Sabi Mehboob as they juggle bartending at an LGBTQ+ bookstore/bar, being the youngest child of a large Pakistani family and acting as de facto parent to a downtown hipster family.Crime drama series Hightown has been renewed for season three. Achieving her dream of becoming a real cop, lesbian protagonist Jackie Quinones (played by out bisexual actress Monica Raymund) is out to do some good in this world. Thrust immediately into the crime wave of deadly carfentanyl flooding the Cape, Jackie is laser-focused on bringing down drug dealer Frankie Cuevas (Amaury Nolasco), the man Jackie holds responsible for the death of her best friend, Junior. For Jackie, it is personal — but then again, for Jackie, everything is personal.

5) Out actor Robin De Jesús will join the cast in Hulu series Immigrant. The show tells the true story of Banerjee, the Indian-American entrepreneur who started Chippendales. The series will detail the insane, darkly comedic, crime-ridden story behind the unique male revue that became a cultural phenomenon. De Jesús will portray Ray Colon, a proud Nuyorican from the Bronx who comes on the Chippendales scene as the resident handyman and self-proclaimed jack of all trades. Affable and eager-to-please, Ray reveres founder Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani) and their growing friendship finds Ray in more than one compromising situation as the season progresses.
6) Additionally, out actor Parvesh Cheena will join the cast for upcoming comedic thriller series The Resort. The show is a multi-generational coming-of-age romance disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time. An anniversary trip puts a marriage to the test when the couple finds themselves embroiled in one of the Mayan Riviera’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries, which took place fifteen years prior. Cheena will play Ted, who is at the resort on vacation with his husband, also named Ted.

7) Yasmine Aker will replace Odelya Halevi in a recasting for Good Trouble’s upcoming fourth season. Residents of a communal living space juggle career, sex, love and friendship, while fighting for social justice and queer rights by making noise and getting into good trouble. Aker will play Angelica, a queer waitress who navigates her way through a complicated new relationship with Malika (Zuri Adele) while dealing with the fallout of her last relationship. Out actor Kal Penn has recently joined Disney+’s The Santa Clause limited series reboot. Penn will play Simon Choksi, an ambitious developer and single father whose life changes when he visits the North Pole.

10) This year’s NAACP Awards winners include Queen Sugar for Outstanding Drama Series and Insecure for Outstanding Comedy Series. Queen Sugar includes bisexual protagonist Nova Bordelon (out actress Rutina Wesley) and trans character Toine Wilkins (out trans actor Brian Michael Smith), and Insecure includes gay character Ahmal Dee (Jean Elie).
