1.) Linoleum, a new sci-fi flick from SHOUT! Studios, is out now in a limited theatrical release. The film follows the host of a failing children’s science television show whose true dream is becoming an astronaut. Then one day, a mysterious satellite crash-lands in his backyard, sparking an idea to turn it into a rocket, unaware of the surreal events about to unfold all around him. Nora, the main character’s daughter, is queer and figuring out her sexuality in the film. Check to see if Linoleum is coming to a theater near you!
2.) Out actor Alan Cumming will star in the upcoming road-trip film Drive Back Home. The film is set in 1968, and follows a conservative plumber from a small town who travels to Toronto to get his brother out of jail after he was caught having sex with another man in a park. Their mother then insists the pair must do the 1000 mile drive back to New Brunswick together, leading to discoveries about each other and themselves along the way. 3.) Out dancer, actress, and influencer Jojo Siwa has been cast in the upcoming horror-thriller All My Friends Are Dead. The film follows a group of friends who get a great deal on a homeshare for one of the biggest music festivals of the year. However, a party-filled weekend takes a turn when members of the group are murdered one by one, and realize that each death corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins. 4.) The trailer for season two of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, an adaptation from Leigh Bardugo’s trilogy of books, dropped this week! The show is set in a world of Grisha, who can each control some form of matter. The main character, Alina, is discovered to be the prophesied Sun Summoner, and can conjure light. In season two, Alina is on the run determined to increase her power to defeat her enemy. Jesper Fahey, a bisexual character, has a supporting role in the show. 5.) The cast for season two of the Paramount+ drag queen singing competition Queen of the Universe was announced this week! Out actor and tv presenter Graham Norton hosts, and Drag Race All Stars season 3 winner Trixie Mattel sits on the judging panel. This season’s list of queens includes Aura Eternal, Chloe V, Jazell Royale, Love Masisi, Maxie, Militia Scunt, Miss Sistrata, Taiga Brava, Trevor Ashley, and Viola. 6.) Jojo Siwa is having a big week this week! The out tv personality has made a deal with Pure Imagination Studios to develop film and television series around XOMG Pop!, an all girl pop group selected by Siwa and her mother. The first project will be an animated television series that follows the group as they tour the universe in a magical tour bus. Stay tuned for more information about the XOMGPCU (XOMG Pop! Cinematic Universe)!
7.) Sam Smith is set to appear in season two of the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That…. While details of who the queer non-binary singer will play are being kept under wraps, Smith’s recent Instagram post claims they’re doing “something unholy” (a reference to their hit song with trans popstar Kim Petras). In other casting news, bisexual actress Jacivia Leslie was cast in the upcoming ABC procedural drama HIP (High Intellectual Potential).
8.) Out musician and actress Reneé Rapp’s deluxe EP Everything to Everyone is out today! The deluxe version of the EP, which was originally released in November 2022, features additional cover art and new, never-before-heard tracks. In other music news, gay singer and former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert released his new album High Drama today. Queer artist Araya released his new track “Poison,” the latest from his upcoming Arena album. Queer artist Cyote also released their new single, titled “none the wise“.
