Our Anthony Allen Ramos chats with pop singer-songwriter Betty Who about her brand new single “Blow Out My Candle” which is out now! In the candid interview, Betty also talks about her own queer journey and how self-reflection during the pandemic was key helped her understand who she truly is. On this process, Betty Who shares: “One of the positives about being away from the world in this really crazy way that we were all experiencing [during the pandemic] meant that I was experiencing myself for the first time away from people’s perceptions of me. … So, a lot of self-acceptance was occuring during quarantine, a lot of coming to terms with my own queer identity and how I think I’ve always been really afraid to take up space.”
She also talks about the message of her new song being the perfect anthem for Pride month and she also has also released a Betty Who candle, with a percentage of the proceeds going to GLAAD. The candles are available for purchase HERE.
Betty’s new song will serve to be a vehicle for change and drive awareness for the GLAAD Vote with Pride program that looks to increase voter turnout. Betty is partnering with GLAAD in our voting registration efforts for the month of Pride. You can pledge to vote here. Next up, Betty is also going to be performing at iHeartRadio’s Can’t Cancel Pride on June 14 and then she is making her reality TV debut by hosting Amazon Studios’ new dating show The One That Got Away which premieres on June 24th. “Blow Out My Candle” is out now!
