For 11 seasons, ABC’s Modern Family has provided us with laughs and truly heartfelt moments. Saying “goodbye” to the Dunphys, Pritchetts, and the Tuckers isn’t easy, but alas, it is time, as the show ends its incredible run with a special one-hour series finale that airs on Wednesday, April 8th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
A pioneer for LGBTQ-inclusivity on network television, we’ll always look back particularly fondly at Mitchell and Cam, played respectively by out actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and ally Eric Stonestreet, as they raised their daughter Lily Tucker-Pritchett (played by Aubrey Anderson-Emmons), who grew up on television before our very eyes.
The cast and creators of Modern Family have always been great friends to GLAAD. The show has hosted events for us and were regulars on the red carpet and the stage at the GLAAD Media Awards. In fact, the show is tied for 10 nominations with Will & Grace and Grey’s Anatomy for being the most nominated scripted TV series in GLAAD Media Award history; and they won twice for Outstanding Comedy Series! (in 2011 and 2012)
We decided to take a short look back at just a few of our fondest memories with the cast.
In 2011, Joel McHale presented Modern Family’s first GLAAD Media Award to Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, and Ariel Winter.
And in 2012, Betty White and the Hot in Cleveland cast presented the award to Ferguson!
Lastly, Sofia Vergara made this very cute Public Service Announcement (PSA) for GLAAD’s Spanish-language community in 2010!
Thank you, Modern Family, for the 11 seasons of incredible memories and for pushing the envelope forward towards greater acceptance for the LGBTQ community!
