Wednesday, March 8th, GLAAD joined the cast and creative team of the all-new web series Marque and Hector, at their New York City premiere event. Marque and Hector is a groundbreaking new comedy that features a cast of LGBTQ stars including Joslyn DeFreece as Marque, Linus Ignatius as Hector, Miss Peppermint as Daffodil, and so many more incredible talents.
The star-studded night featured faces like Joslyn DeFreece (co-creator, actor), Linus Ignatius (director, co-creator, editor, actor), Miss Peppermint (actor), L Morgan Lee, Devin Norelle, Cody Lassen, Cory Wade, Mila Jam, Dee Trannybear, and Braunwyn Windham-Burke.
The series follows Marque as the IRS threatens to seize his dead mother’s home, where he’s been reclusively staying with Hector, in classic “Grey Gardens” fashion. In order to keep the house, Marque dreams up a plan to go viral on YouTube and pay off the bank with his ad revenue. But with Hector constantly interrupting him, will Marque ever be able to launch a successful DIY home decor channel? Find out here! The entire series is available now on YouTube.
As described by the series’ creators, “Comedy is too often created at the expense of our communities. Major publications continue to provide a platform for dangerous and divisive rhetoric. Marque and Hector is created by, for, and about our community. Our mission is to take the bull by the horns and tell our own damn stories. This is queer content that uplifts and celebrates our identities!”
At the red carpet, GLAAD’s Yolanda Lenge spoke to the cast where they offered words of advice for trans youth who may be struggling right now with the wave of hate sweeping the nation.
Following the screening, GLAAD’s Senior Director of Communications Tony Morrison moderated a panel discussion about the show’s impact. As a project created by queer and trans voices at every level of production, Marque and Hector is deeply aligned with GLAAD’s mission to amplify LGBTQ voices and hold the media accountable for the representation of our community.
