—Went on the record opposing marriage equality. “I understand these issues can be divisive, and I would never demonize someone with a different point of view from mine,” Braun said. “Where I stand comes from my upbringing and my faith: I’m 100 percent pro-life and I believe in traditional marriage … I think traditional marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

—Helped social conservatives’ successful effort to keep marriage defined as a union “between a man and a woman” in the Indiana Republican Party platform.

—Signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court defending a taxpayer-funded agency’s right to discriminate against same-sex couples looking to foster a child.

—Voted for the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allows businesses in the state to discriminate against LGBTQ patrons.

—Opposed amendments to legislation to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

—When asked about potential support for federal LGBTQ protections, Braun suggested a rights disparity doesn’t exist: “If there is something that would prove salient in the fact that there is discrimination or some right not there that others have… But there’s nothing that stands out now.”
