Jenna Ellis
Legal Advisor to President Donald Trump
- Updated: April 21, 2023
—Misgendered Pennsylvania Health Secretary, Dr. Rachel Levine, as Dr. Levine was leading Pennsylvania’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Ellis falsely claimed that “the truth of biology shows that human beings are created immutably male and female.”
—Wrote of LGBTQ people: “These sinners need our prayers also, and while their conduct is vile and abominable, certainly we cannot forget that they are human beings, made in the image of God. Unlike gorillas.”
—Insisted: “Transgender ‘women’ are still men.”
—Wrote a book in which she repeatedly condemned “open homosexuality” and argued that marriage equality rulings will mean that “sexual expression will continue to pervade any sense of boundaries or morality, and the homosexual slogan ‘love is love’ will become the mantra of the pedophile.”
—Wrote of transgender people/rights: “To support or enable someone to go against their own biological body is to have a low view of the body. The government should not compel us to recognize a fictional status…. It is out of love and truth that Christians reject ‘trans’ identity as legitimate.”
—Tweeted of transgender people: “What happens when social pressure encourages kids to do something perceived as ‘cool’ or will make them feel a sense of belonging or empathy. ‘Transgender’ has been around for the last 10 minutes. This isn’t a legitimate, biologically correct solution to the void—only God is.”
—Wrote on Facebook, “Christians cannot follow God and accept or condone or participate in homosexuality or adulterous behavior.”
—Questioned the legality of the Supreme Court’s historic marriage and abortion rulings: “Congress does not have the constitutional authority to regulate abortion or marriage, and the Supreme Court in those cases ruled out of activism purely because the majority wanted to legalize abortion and same-sex marriage nationally. Those holdings stripped states of their constitutional authority to determine laws on abortion and marriage.”
—Erroneously claimed that bans on so-called “conversion therapy” would lead to bans on books: “In other words, a Christian bookstore could be sued for carrying a book such as Ryan T. Anderson’s latest, When Harry Became Sally, solely because the message is in conflict with the LGBT agenda.”
—Claimed the national monument at Stonewall Inn is an “open embrace and celebration of sin.” The post on Ellis’ public Facebook profile was removed.
—Derisively referred to the LGBTQ community as “LGBTQIAAblahblahblah” and boasted, “I for one am very happy to be left out of all the ‘pride.’”
—Insisted that transgender schoolchildren using a bathroom that matches their gender is really “the supposed ‘freedom’ to act incongruently with one’s actual gender.”
—Has staunchly insisted on so-called “religious freedom” laws that allow people of faith to openly discriminate against LGBTQ people: “It is incumbent upon Colorado and other states to actively take steps to actually cure this hostility, amend anti-discrimination laws to allow freedom of conscience, provide transparency to ensure hostility is not simply secretive, and provide meaningful access to justice in the form of preserving religious liberty and all constitutional protections before a future Supreme Court has to deal another significant blow to an agenda-driven executive agency bent on persecuting Christians for their faith.”
—Criticized legislation limiting the anti-scientific concept of “conversion therapy” because it “would have made it illegal for minors to receive counseling services of their choice for gender confusion and same-sex attraction issues.”
—Wrote of LGBTQ pride’s use of the rainbow: “If we’re really laying copyright or trademark claims to the rainbow, one can certainly argue that God Himself has the original claim, going back to Genesis 6-9 (many of the oldest manuscripts of this account date back to the Dead Sea Scrolls, among others).”
The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people.
