Bryan Fischer
Conservative Radio Host
Former Director of Issues Analysis, American Family Association
—Former Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association (AFA), which the Southern Poverty Law Center listed as an anti-gay hate group in 2010. He was fired from AFA , which rejected the extreme positions Fischer took as detailed by the SLPC, including “homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler” and “we need an underground railroad to protect children from same-sex households.”
—Has called for banning the LGBTQ pride flag, which he equates with the Confederate flag.
—Linked the LGBTQ-rights movements to Nazis for defending a commercial that contained a lesbian kiss.
—Says expectation for business owners to serve the public equally is “slavery” and that the rainbow flag is “as much a symbol of bigotry” as the Confederate Flag: “For the government to force someone to do work that violates his conscience is nothing less than tyranny. And for a man to be compelled under threat of punishment to perform work against his will is slavery. The reality is that the LGBTQ lobby is the reincarnation of some of the worst elements of the mindless prejudice of the Old South in its irrational venom toward people (Christians) who are not like them. The rainbow flag is the new Confederate flag. It is as much a symbol of bigotry as that flag ever was in the minds of the left.”
—Refers to SCOTUS marriage equality decision as “a date that will live in moral infamy”
—Wants to re-criminalize sodomy: “If injection drug abuse is contrary to public policy, homosexual conduct should too [sic]. And for the same reasons.”
—On multiple occasions, called for an “Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households.”
—Insists that “the homosexual agenda” is “the greatest threat to liberty” America has faced in its history.
—In AFA column (since deleted, but chronicled in the Miami News Times), Fischer wrote, “We discriminate against sexually immoral and inappropriate behavior all the time, and homosexual behavior is sexually immoral and inappropriate. Went on to equate homosexuality with “people who rip off convenience stores, burgle houses, drive while drunk, eat the faces off homeless people, gun down servicemen on military bases, embezzle funds from employers or clients, or beat their wives” as well as “adultery, incest, polygamy, pedophilia, rape, bestiality;” said we should discriminate against all.
—Says gay people must be criminalized and treated like drug addicts; even asks (at 2:29): “Do you put them to death, do you lock ‘em up…what do you do?”
—Links “homosexual conduct” to sex with corpses.
—Praised Uganda’s law criminalizing homosexuality (with jail time), saying it proves his is a “winnable war.”
—Directly links homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality: “We should discriminate against unnatural and aberrant sexual behavior, whether pedophilia, bestiality, or homosexuality.”
—Said that by overturning the Defense of Marriage Act and throwing marriage back to California, the Supreme Court is “doing to us what the Nazis did to the Jews.”
—Admits he wants to discriminate against gay people.
—Insists the First Amendment only applies to Christianity.
—Refers to gay activists as “leeches.”
—Says (beginning at 8:00) that gay activists are “jack-booted homofascist thugs who want to use the tyrannical and totalitarian power of the state to send men of faith to jail, and that frankly sounds a lot more like Nazi Germany than the United States of America.”
—Suggests Boy Scouts (whom he calls the “Boy Sodomizers of America“) would be better off drowned in the sea than to allow gay scouts.
—Says about LGBTQ activists: “We cannot accommodate, we can’t compromise, we can’t find middle ground. They cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be compromised with, they cannot be dialogued with—they can only be defeated!”
—In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, suggested lack of God, prayer, and guns was to blame.
—Equates openly gay NFL player Michael Sam with a “brain concussion.”
—Has dedicated several show segments to denying that HIV causes AIDS.
—Claims: “The homosexual agenda represents the single greatest modern threat to freedom of religion and conscience.”
—Says: “The real haters are homosexuals. The real venom is coming from those that support the homosexual agenda, either homosexual activists, homosexuals, or those that support the homosexual agenda. They are the real haters. There is a heterophobic hatred, there is a Christophobic hatred that is just seething, there’s a dark, venomous, demonic hatred that is in the homosexual community.”
—Asserts: “Ladies and gentlemen, they [gay people] are Nazis (see video at :24). Do not be under any illusions about what homosexual activists will do with your freedoms and your religion if they have the opportunity. They’ll do the same thing to you that the Nazis did to their opponents in Nazi Germany.”
—Fischer’s bullying prevention plan: “If We Want to See Fewer Students Commit Suicide, We Want Fewer Homosexual Students.”
—Again: “There is no spirit of God in Islam. It is the spirit of Satan (see video at :19). It is the spirit of darkness. It is the spirit of tyranny. It is the spirit of bondage.”
—Fischer claimed, “Homosexuality gave us Adolf Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.”
—Says: “homosexuality represents an evolutionary degrade”…”evidence of a species devolving.“
—In a now-scrubbed column, claimed Native Americans were innately cursed because they “cling to the darkness of indigenous superstition.” (In a January 2013 interview with David Shuster, Fischer said he stood by this claim; in 2014, Fischer made a similar claim on his radio show).
—Declares same-sex parenting to be “a form of child abuse“ (using anti-gay researcher Robert Oscar Lopez as “proof”),
—Links homosexuality to dalliances with sex workers.
The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people.
