The LGBTQ community showed up and out at the 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night! Hosted by standup comedian Nate Bargatze, Hollywood’s hottest celebs arrived in their Sunday best at the Peacock Theatre to see which shows and stars would take home an award for outstanding performances, directing, writing, and more.
And aside from the beloved Apple TV+ comedy The Studio, it was queer people who led the charge in snagging the coveted Television Academy trophies. See below for the full list of LGBTQ wins from the ceremony:
The first win for the community was Tramell Tillman, who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Tillman also made history as the first ever Black man to win in this category, for his portrayal as the stern and verbose manager of the severed floor in Apple TV’s dystopian drama Severance.
Up next was Jeff Hiller, who beat out fellow gays Colman Domingo, Michael Urie, and Bowen Yang for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Hiller received uproarious applause from his queer counterparts upon acceptance of his award, where he cheekily thanked HBO for “putting a show about sweaty middle-aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of ‘Euphoria.” Hiller also thanked his husband and his fellow costar and long-time ally Bridgett Everett.
Later, fan favorite Hannah Einbinder took home an award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series where she powerfully denounced ICE and sent support to people in Palestine upon acceptance of her trophy. This is Einbinder’s 4th nomination and her 1st win.
Continuing the trend of queer woman wins, Erin Doherty of Adolescence was awarded Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for Netflix’s psychological drama Adolescence, which made waves after its release in March for its bold, uninterrupted single take format, and the limited series’ raw, emotional performances. Doherty’s costar Owen Cooper also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited/Anthology Series, making him the youngest actor in Emmy’s history to be recognized for an acting category.
Finally, who better than Alan Cumming to close out the rainbow wave at the Emmy’s? Cumming took home the Outstanding Reality Series trophy as host of Peacock’s The Traitors, beating out RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Top Chef.
