Dear LGBTQ Youth,
Yesterday, GLAAD’s Communities of Color and Media Department proudly joined hands with millions around the world in celebration of Spirit Day, the world’s largest LGBTQ anti-bullying campaign.
Spirit Day is a beacon of hope, a reminder that we all share the responsibility of fostering a world where every young person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels safe, valued, and empowered. It’s a day that underscores the importance of nurturing an environment where everyone can thrive, free from the shadows of bullying and discrimination.
As we work to build a more equitable and inclusive society, it is essential to take into account and champion the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ youth of color.
To build a better future for the youth of today, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to amplifying our stories, allowing queer communities of color to see themselves reflected in the world around them. We will continue elevating diverse voices and advocating for a world in which every person can flourish without fear.
Yesterday, today, and every day, we send a powerful message to LGBTQ+ youth, particularly LGBTQ+ youth of color: You are not alone. You are loved and valued just as you are, as your authentic self, standing in your truth. Join us in showcasing the strength of our collective spirit as we embrace future generations with open hearts, open minds, and open arms.
Spirit Day is an opportunity for dialogue, for connection, and for positive change. Every day is an opportunity to stand against bullying, but now we show up intentionally in the strength of our collective spirit, with open hearts and open minds, to stand with LGBTQ+ youth.
With love and unwavering support,
Communities of Color and Media Department, GLAAD
