On Tuesday, February 5th, President Trump announced another executive order baselessly targeting transgender people. This inaccurate, discriminatory order aims to ban trans women and girls from competing in women’s and girls’ sports. This comes just days after the administration’s slew of inaccurate, discriminatory directives and executive orders that aim to restrict funding for schools that are LGBTQ-inclusive, deny access to gender affirming care, and ban trans people from serving in the military.
As protests emerge around the country, people are also voicing their anger and opposition online. Actress Busy Philipps took to Instagram last night to share her thoughts show her support for the transgender community.
She starts the video by saying, “Get ready with me for a first date!” to capture audience’s attention. She then says, “Actually, I just really want to talk about Trump’s executive order ‘defending women from gender ideology.'”
“It’s a lie,” she states. “It doesn’t defend us. It doesn’t protect us. It hurts all of us.”
“As a cis woman, I want to say; I don’t need or want to be defended or protected from trans women,” she declares. “Trans women are my sisters.”
Philipps has long been an outspoken ally for the LGBTQ community, and proudly supported her child when they came out as queer.
She goes on to say, “Trans women and I have the same fight, which is for bodily autonomy and for safety and equality. I know that when we all fight together, we will get those things, things that we deserve.”
Philipps expresses her frustration with the Trump administration using “women’s safety” as a guise for anti-trans rhetoric. “Not in my name,” she demands.
She closes with a message of support, “I love the trans community. I will always stand up for the trans community.”

GLAAD has responded to Trump’s inaccurate and discriminatory executive order, stating, stating, “This administration’s latest inaccurate and incoherent piece of paper smears an entire group of Americans but does not change the law or the facts. All women and girls, including transgender women and girls, should be welcome to play sports if they want, make decisions about their own bodies, be hired for jobs they are qualified for, and be free from lawless attacks by elected officials. Anti-LGBTQ politicians with a record of abusing and silencing women and stripping their health care have zero credibility in any conversation about protecting women and girls. Every American should demand that so-called leaders stop attacking vulnerable people and start doing their jobs solving actual problems.” Read the full release here.
