Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) The first trailer has been released for Sundance hit comedy Together Together, starring Ed Helms and Patti Harrison as an unlikely duo who become friends after he hires her to be the surrogate for his child. In addition to Harrison, the film also stars queer actors Julio Torres and Tig Notaro. It will be released in theaters April 23; watch the trailer below.
2) No Ordinary Man, the documentary about legendary trans musician Billy Tipton, has secured US distribution from Oscilloscope Laboratories. The film, directed by Aisling Chin-Yee and Chase Joynt features trans artists showcasing Tipton’s story, including Marquise Vilsón, Scott Turner Schofield, Susan Stryker, C. Riley Snorton, and Thomas Page McBee.
3) Paramount Players has secured the rights to Quinceanerx, a new musical following genderfluid teen Xavier, who just wants to have a Quinceanera, despite the fact that the adults in their family still sees them as a boy. Xavier and their cousin plan a plot to switch places so Xavier can have the celebration they deserve. The film will be directed by Kevin Lima.

4) The upcoming romantic comedy Mack and Rita, following a woman in her 30s who accidentally wills herself into being in her 70s, has announced its casting. In addition to Diane Keaton, Elizabeth Lail and Schitt’s Creek’s Dustin Milligan, the film has added trans comedian Patti Harrison to the cast as the agent of Mack/Rita. In more casting news, out actress Alia Shawkat has been cast in upcoming film Being the Ricardos, following Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, which follows one week in the life of the famous couple filming I Love Lucy. Shawkat will play Madelyn Pugh, a long-time writer on the show.
5) A date has been announced for the FX docuseries Pride, which follows the fight for LGBTQ rights over the past sixteen years. The episodes will be directed by queer and trans filmmakers including Tom Kain, Andrew Ahn, Cheryl Dunye, Anthony Caronna and Alex Smith, Yance Ford, and Ro Haber. It will premiere on May 14.

6) Charmed has cast trans actress Mareya Salazar in a recurring role as Joséfina, the second cousin of the Charmed Ones, who “shows up on their doorsteps with surprises and secrets.” Out legendary filmmaker John Waters has joined The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in a guest starring role for its upcoming fourth season. In other guest starring news, out comedian Margaret Cho will appear in the spring finale of Good Trouble as herself, giving advice to lesbian aspiring comedian Alice (Sherry Cola.)

7) A date has been announced for the second half of the fifth season of Lucifer, which will be released on Netflix on May 28. The show, which features multiple bisexual characters, including the titular role, will end on its sixth season of the streamer. A new untitled multicamera comedy from Netflix has rounded out its cast. The show stars Emily Osment as an uptight woman who is forced to move in with her sister and her eccentric friends. One of those friends is Jayden (Michael Hsu Rosen), a gay man who used to be a child model and now makes his living as a social media influencer.

8) Our Kind of People, a new series from out producer Lee Daniels and Karin Gist has been ordered to series from Fox. The show, based on the book Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, takes place in Oaks Bluff on Martha’s vineyard and follows a community of rich and powerful Black elites. A new trailer has been released for the seventh and final season of Younger, which will premiere on Paramount+ on April 15. The show’s cast include queer actors Nico Tortorella and Molly Bernard, as well as queer characters Lauren (Bernard) and Maggie (Debi Mazar), the latter of whom explores a relationship with a new woman in the trailer.
9) Demi Lovato released her newest album Dancing with the Devil… The Art of Starting Over today. The album is released in conjunction with the queer singer’s docuseries, which is now streaming on YouTube. Listen to the album here and watch the video for the title track below!
10) Trans singer Mila Jam released a music video for her single “pretty one” on Wednesday. The song is featured on her EP also called pretty one. Listen to the EP here and watch the video below! Andrew Choi, the out musician also known as St. Lenox released his news single “Deliverance” on Tuesday. The new track is from his upcoming album Ten Songs of Worship and Praise for Our Tumultuous Time, which will be released on June 11. Listen to the new track here.
11) A virtual reading of Larry Kramer’s groundbreaking play The Normal Heart has set its cast, and it includes queer and trans talent such as Laverne Cox, Jeremy Pope, Jake Borelli, Vincent Rodriguez II, Guillermo Diaz, Ryan O’Connell, and more. The reading will support ONE Archive Foundation, and tickets will be available on April 8.
