Asher HaVon is a rising soulful gospel and R&B artist from Selma, Alabama who was just crowned the winner of The Voice season 25! This extremely competitive season also marked Coach Reba McEntire‘s first win on the NBC competition show as she served as HaVon’s mentor.
HaVon has made history as the first openly LGBTQ contestant to win The Voice. Fans have been in awe of HaVon from the start with his powerful performance of Adele‘s “Set Fire to the Rain” in the blind auditions round.
From that point on, Reba, as well as the rest of the world, knew HaVon was born to be a star. He continued to blow audiences away with his emotional renditions of some of the world’s most iconic songs, including David Guetta and Sia’s “Titanium,” Boyz II Men‘s “I’ll Make Love to You,” Donna Summer‘s “Last Dance,” Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” and Whitney Houston‘s ballad “I Will Always Love You.”
Before being announced as the season’s big winner, HaVon was joined by coach Reba McEntire for a soulful duet of “On My Own,” by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald.
Fans are moved not only by his undeniable talent, but his story and passion. Growing up in Selma, HaVon was surrounded by gospel singers his whole life. Asher’s mom, “his singing sergeant,” inspired him to sing since an early age.
His first major performance came in 2015 when President Obama came to Selma for a speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery in honor of African-American civil rights. Asher auditioned for a spot in the choir that was set to perform John Legend and Common’s song “Glory.” The choir director was so blown away that he chose Asher to lead the choir that day, performing in front of 200,000 people.
Keep up with HaVon on social media @asherohavon to see what’s next for him! “The Voice” Season 26 will return to NBC in Fall 2024 and feature coaches Reba McEntire as the reigning champ, alongside new coaches Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé and returning coach Gwen Stefani.
