Alaska, the iconic drag queen and fan favorite, is returning to her role as Kitty Galloway in DRAG: The Musical starting February 8, at New World Stages.
The show is also proud to announce new cast additions, including two-time Grammy Award winner Tamika Lawrence as Dixie Coxworth, beginning February 26, and Lisa Helmi Johanson, who will take over from J. Elaine Marcos from February 17 to March 24.
And that’s not all—DRAG: The Musical has been named a Special Recognition honoree at the 36th GLAAD Media Awards, a well-deserved honor for the show’s bold and unapologetic celebration of drag artists, queer culture and family.
Directed and choreographed by Spencer Liff (Falsettos, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), DRAG: The Musical dazzled audiences upon its October 2024 opening, blending camp, heart, and glamorous spectacle into a show-stopping experience. Written by Alaska, Tomas Costanza, and Ashley Gordon, the musical follows two rival drag houses battling for supremacy in a high-stakes competition filled with fashion, family, and forgiveness.
The star-studded cast also includes Nick Adams as Alexis Gillmore, Eddie Korbich as Drunk Jerry, Jan Sport as Savannah St. James, Jujubee as The Tigress, Lagoona Bloo as Tuna Turner, Luxx Noir London as Popcorn, Nick Laughlin as Puss Puss DuBois, and Remi Tuckman and Yair Keydar alternating in the role of young Brendan Hutchinson. Broadway’s Adam Pascal plays the straight-man role of Tom Hutchinson.
With fierce drag queens, no lip-syncing, and fierce competition, DRAG: The Musical is a tale of spite, survival, and glittery revenge that’s been captivating audiences across New York. The show is already getting rave reviews, with The New Yorker calling it “a glamorous, camp-filled spectacle” and Vulture declaring it “a fun, sequin-splattered extravaganza.” New York Theatre Guide calls it a “riotously fun show,” and Time Out New York gave it four stars, praising its “bubbly, bedazzled, sequin-studded song-and-dance story.”
The band features Andrew Orbison (conductor and keyboard), Brad Babinski (bass), Ariel Bellvalaire (guitar), Max Wagner (guitar), and Jasmin Guevara (drums), providing a rocking soundtrack for the show’s thrilling performances. The creative team is led by scenic designer Jason Sherwood, costume designer Marco Marco, and lighting designer Adam Honore, among others.
Produced by a powerhouse team, including executive producers Tomas Costanza, Scott Prisand, and Liza Minnelli, DRAG: The Musical is not just a performance—it’s a celebration of queer culture and drag’s undeniable impact. With its continued success and extended run, this is a show you won’t want to miss.
