On March 13th, 2024 in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre, GLAAD’s Communities of Color & Media Department hosted their 3rd Annual #GLAADHonors Celebration ahead of the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. This night was dedicated to celebrating Black nominees for their queer storytelling.
Black LGBTQ+ Talent in the room consisted of singer/creative director, Victor Jackson, singer VINCINT, singer/actress Amber Riley, actress Priscilla Walker, artists Adrienne and Janeeka Muse, director Kharmony Fortune, actress Quei Tann, stylist KJ Moody, director Nneka Onuorah, creator Tarek Ali, actress Isis King, and writer and director Nasir Kenneth Ferebee.
The event was kicked off with photos on the red carpet, captured by Getty Images photographer, Robin L. Marshall and a floral headshot session with LaQuann Dawson.
President of GLAAD, Sarah Kate Ellis, welcomed the crowd in highlighting GLAAD’s Communities of Color & Media Teams’ dedication to curating these spaces for the black, queer community and the growth of the #GLAADHonors, starting a small intimate dinner to now one of the hottest celebrations to look out for.
Attendees enjoyed signature cocktails and hors d’oeurves while enjoying film screenings from the 2023 Black Queer Creative Summit Pitch Competition Winners, filmmaker Alexander King, actor/filmmaker, Donnie Hue Frazier III, and creative and podcaster Soyria “Soy” Giraud.
Guests were also treated with iconic music performances by five of this year’s Equity in Media Initiative Cohort from 2 AM Ricky, Asiahn, SHAH, Suni MF, and Victor Jackson.
