It’s a new month, which means new opportunities for queer TV! GLAAD is bringing you some highlights from LGBTQ TV premieres and returns throughout August. Check back on the first of each month for up-to-date coverage of LGBTQ-inclusive programming on television.
August 5:
Las Culturistas Culture Awards (Bravo/Peacock)
Queer comedians and podcast co-hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards will be televised on Bravo and Peacock this year! The spoof on a typical awards show features categories such as “Trans Rights Award For Stuff You Can’t Take Away From Us Even If You Tried” and “Most Reductive Way To Note That A Gay Man Is Speaking” among many others. The awards show filmed on July 17 in Los Angeles, but don’t miss it when it hits your TV on August 5 on Bravo at 9pm, or Peacock the following day!
August 6:
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (Season 3 – Disney+)
Season three of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premieres on Disney+ this month! The reboot of the popular sitcom sees a number of characters return, including Penny, Oscar, Suga Mama, and others, as well as introducing new LGBTQ characters in the series. Randall and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins, voiced by Billy Porter and Zachary Quinto respectively, are married and the adoptive parents of Maya. The show also features gay and gender-nonconforming character Michael, who was in the original series as well. Don’t miss season three of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, streaming on August 6 on Disney+!
August 7:
Taurasi (Limited Series – Prime Video)
A three part docuseries about the life and career of WNBA legend Diana Taurasi will premiere on Prime Video this month! Through interviews with Taurasi, former teammates, relatives, coaches, agents, and others, the docuseries aims to paint a comprehensive portrait of the sports icon. The series comes as Taurasi has retired from the game, ending an era of the sport. Don’t miss Taurasi, streaming on Prime Video on August 7!
