Monét joined GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos to talk about the upcoming series. “It’s kind of like Pee Wee’s Playhouse meets The Graham Norton Show meets One Girl, Five Gays from back in the day on MTV,” she explains.
She talks about how lucky she feels to be in this position. “I’m very grateful that I am one of the girls that gets to work a lot and do a lot of things. At this point, I just really want to create things that are fun. That when I have to go to work, it doesn’t feel like work, I feel like I’m having a good time and this is what that show is.”
“I could not have asked for our season 1 to have a better cast of people,” she says. “Every episode, everyone just worked well together, vibing on each other, laughing, making really funny jokes. It was really, really, really great casting.”
Monét, who kicked off her career on the 10th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, talks about how great it is to get to spotlight so many incredible queens on her show. “Every girl who was in drag on the show is a really close friend of mine.”
She spoke in detail what it really means to be a drag queen.

“Anytime someone asks me to define drag, I always say ‘yes, and?’ because I feel like that is a perfect way to describe what drag is. Anything you need a drag queen to do, she will learn how to do it and be really good at it.” She continues by saying, “To be successful queen of New York City, you need to learn how to be by yourself on a stage for two hours entertaining a room full of drunk, homosexual queer individuals… and that is no easy feat. So, you had to learn how to be a singer, a dancer, a host, a comedian, a storyteller.”
She goes on to say, “I had to learn all these things and I’m so grateful that I did. I’m so grateful that drag taught me all of these things because it has changed me. It has made my career so big and so bright, with limitless, endless possibilities because of what I had to learn to master within myself as a drag queen.”
She talks about how much she loves working on the GLAAD Media Award winning podcast Sibling Rivalry with Bob the Drag Queen. “It is our child that we father together… We have such an amazing community we have built through the podcast.” She continues, “The community that we have been able to foster because of people’s love for drag art and bickering is incredible. It’s one of the greatest gifts I feel like I’ve given to the world.”
She reveals that her dream guests on the show would have to be Meryl Streep, Whoopi Goldberg, Sza, Victoria Monet, and of course RuPaul.
She praises Ru and wonders how amazing it must feel to be “one of the founding mothers of drag and to put drag on the world stage, to see how it is today.” With drag becoming more mainstream and globally recognized, “I just always think about how, yes, it’s amazing for me to see it. But imagine what it is like for RuPaul to see this thing, this baby, this thing that he never ever thought would ever become this, to wake up every day and realize that it is this.”
