GLAAD Media Award honoree and Emmy winner Billy Porter has dropped his new single “Leap” today from his forthcoming EP Black Mona Lisa Vol 2: The Cookout Sessions which is set to debut soon.
The news of Porter’s motivational single and EP comes at a perfect time as we celebrated Pride month and Juneteenth.
“I always want to make sure I use my art to heal. Music is thee universal language,” Porter said in a statement about his new single. “We are in trying times right now and I wrote ‘Leap’ alongside of the late genius Andrea Martin to inspire love across all races, creeds, identities, and value structures. Welcome to the cookout!”
Co-written by Lofey who has worked with Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey, and the aforementioned late, great legendary songwriter Andrea Martin, “Leap” embodies a classic R&B groove and memorable melody designed to inspire.
As Pride month rolls on, Porter continues to celebrate with a recent appearance in iHeartRadio’s “Can’t Cancel Pride”. He also served as the Grand Marshal and headline performer at a string of Pride festivals this month, including a performance for over 50,000 people at DC Capital Pride just last week. He is set to take the stage at Nashville Pride on June 23 and San Francisco Pride on June 30. Porter will take his act across the pond to the UK for Brighton Pride on August 3. In addition, Porter has set dates for the Black Mona Lisa UK Tour in the fall.
