On Friday, June 7th, The Critics Choice Association hosted the biggest Pride event in film and TV! The inaugural Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television, took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, and was a night for the books.
Hosted by the hilarious Sherry Cola, this celebration aimed to honor the finest achievements from the LGBTQ+ entertainment community, both in front of and behind the camera, as well as showcased emerging and established talent. As a part of the CCA’s new series of celebrations, including The Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television, The Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema and Television, and The Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema and Television, the goal is to shine a light on work from historically underrepresented talent. The show will be available for streaming on June 21st.
Countless awards and honors were given out to deserving individuals and projects that brought meaningful LGBTQ representation to big and small screens around the world.
Honorees included Carl Clemons-Hopkins with the Supporting Performance Award for Television – Series, Chris Perfetti was given the Breakthrough Performance Award for Television – Series, Fernando Carsa was given the Rising Star Award, George Takei received the Social Justice Award, and Kristen Kish was given the TV Host Award!
Additional awards went to the producers of Fellow Travelers including Ron Nyswaner, Matt Bomer, Daniel Minahan, and Robbie Rogers, Nava Mau, who was awarded for her Breakthrough Performance in a Limited Series, and the teams behind We’re Here and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The incredible Michaela Jaé Rodriguez was awarded with the night’s Vanguard Award and Henry R. Muñoz III was given the Industry Leadership Award.
