The film is narrated by Plus Life and ABC7 LA’s Karl Schmid, a GLAAD Media Award nominated journalist who’s activism and advocacy in the realm of HIV awareness has earned him a spot on the National AIDS Memorial.
+ Life Media was inspired by ABC talent Karl Schmid’s own story of living with shame and fear of having HIV due to the amount of ignorance and stigma surrounding the virus.
“As we strive to dismantle the walls of stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, it’s crucial to foster open dialogue, compassion, and understanding,” Schmid stated. “Marty’s Place, what it represents, and its possibilities not just as a home and place of community and family, but as a model of affordable housing that encourages prosperity, independence, and self-worth. It not only inspires me personally but gives me great comfort and hope that there are places and communities for people to go to when they think there’s nothing or no one left.”
“We are so pleased to be able to showcase the great work at Marty’s Place by airing this special program on ABC 7,” said President and General Manager of KGO, Tom Cibrowski. “KGO-TV stands for Building a Better Area with a focus on solutions to make our communities stronger. Karl Schmid shows us how hope really does live at Marty’s Place, providing affordable housing to those that need it most, a real life solution that works.”
