Celebrated each year on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is #GivingTuesday.
A global movement which started in 2012 #GivingTuesday is a day of “radical generosity,” set with the goal of “unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world,” according to its organizers.
Those who are able, are encouraged to make a donation to a charity or non-profit of their choice, or give back to their community in a variety of other ways!
In a time where anti-LGBTQ legislation and violence are at an all time high, it is important to not let yourself feel hopeless. For many LGBTQ people and allies, it may feel overwhelming to try and fight back against this hate.
One actionable way to give back to the LGBTQ community and make a real difference, is by supporting an organization like GLAAD, that is working to accelerate acceptance for the community.
GLAAD is the driving force behind media accountability and increasing visibility and representation of LGBTQ people and stories across all media, from TV and film, to publishing, advertising, journalism, gaming and more.
A donation to GLAAD means elevating and amplifying real LGBTQ experiences in media from stage to screen.
It means shaping the media narrative to to reflect the world we live and do business in.
It means changing and shifting our culture.
