On July 13th, Troye Sivan—singer, actor, and internet sensation mega-star—released “Rush.” “Rush” is the first single off of Sivan’s upcoming album, “Something To Give Each Other,” which is set to be released on October 13th via Capitol Records. “Something To Give Each Other” is Sivan’s third studio album and first full-length release since “Bloom” in 2018. His eagerly-anticipated new record serves as a resonant celebration of queerness, community, dance, sweat, love, sex, and friendship. It’s an all-encapsulating, universal proclamation of what it means to take joy in oneself and one another, and how those feelings are necessarily mutually reinforcing within an ethos of liberatory connection.
Recently, Sivan dedicated himself to revivifying his connection with and creation of human relation and dance tracks. It was with the help of Oscar Görres, Ian Kirkpatrick, Leland, and Styalz Fuego that he was able to construct and produce his new album.
Spearheaded by Sivan’s Creative Director Gordon von Steiner and choreographed by Sergio Reis, the official music video for “Rush” evokes sensuality and emotional release in their truest forms. The “Rush” music video opens with a title card stylized in allusion to the poppers brand, “RUSH,” placed in front of a cheeky bare-backed lake-admirer. Immediately, a fast-paced, passionate, blissful, and love-filled scene is set. “‘Rush’ is the feeling of kissing a sweaty stranger on a dancefloor, a 2 hour date that turned into a weekend, a crush, a winter, a summer,” Sivan explains. “Party after party, after party after after party. All of my experiences from a chapter where I feel confident, free and liberated. Independent, yet somehow the most connected to the music and community around me.”
At the close of the video, Sivan is pictured walking across a bridge at sunrise, reminiscing on the night before. As the title suggests, his memories are all rushing back to him. The smile on his face signals that this spirited reflection is just the beginning for him: who’s to say where exactly the bridge will lead beyond “Something To Give Each Other”?
With twenty-two billion streams, ten million adjusted albums sold worldwide, and a litany of standout roles in Hollywood features, high fashion collabs, runway appearances, and a combined social audience of over twenty million, it is evident that Sivan’s career as a superstar is just at its genesis.
