Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) The fifth installment of the Evil Dead horror franchise, Evil Dead Rise, is in theaters now! This film follows sisters Beth and Ellie, the latter of whom is raising three children by herself in a cramped Los Angeles apartment. However, the pair finds a mysterious book deep in Ellie’s building, leaving them with much more to worry about than raising children. Evil Dead Rise also features Morgan Davies, a trans man, as Danny, one of Ellie’s children. Don’t miss Evil Dead Rise, out now in a theater near you!
2.) Ari Aster’s three hour epic Beau is Afraid hits theaters today! The film follows the titular Beau as he takes a chaotic and surreal journey home to his mother. However, Beau is an extremely paranoid man, and is forced to face his greatest fears on this voyage. The film features gay actor Nathan Lane as Roger, a surgeon who helps Beau at one point in his journey. Check out Beau is Afraid, in theaters now!
3.) Bisexual actress Tessa Thompson has been cast as the titular character in Hedda, the upcoming adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s stage play. Considered one of the great theatrical roles, Hedda Gabler is the daughter of a general, stuck in a marriage she has no interest in being a part of. The upcoming adaptation is set to be a sweeping, epic telling of Ibsen’s original tale. Stay tuned for more on Hedda and the iconic Tessa Thompson!

4.) Gay actor Michael Urie has been added to the cast of Goodrich, an upcoming comedy feature. The film follows art dealer Andy Goodrich as his life in LA is turned upside down when his younger wife checks into a 90-day rehab facility while threatening divorce on top of it all. There are no details yet on his role, and we can’t wait to find out more! Stay tuned for more on Michael Urie and Goodrich!

5.) Just a week after the season 15 finale, the cast list and promotional photos for RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars season eight dropped this week! The list features a number of early out queens from previous seasons, like Jaymes Mansfield, Monica Beverly Hillz, Mrs. Kasha Davis, Naysha Lopez, LaLa Ri, Kahanna Montrese, and some who made it pretty far, like Alexis Michelle, Darienne Lake, Jessica Wilde, Heidi N Closet, Kandy Muse, and the first international queen on a regular All Stars season, Jimbo! 6.) Doctor Who has released a first look at drag queen extraordinaire Jinkx Monsoon’s role in the upcoming season! The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner is set to play a powerful villain opposing the doctor, and she certainly looks the part in the released photos! There was also a brief clip of Monsoon in costume released, but we still don’t have many details on her character. We also got a first look at Ncuti Gatwa’s doctor, who will be the first gay doctor in the history of the show! Stay tuned for more news on the (very queer) upcoming season of Doctor Who!

7.) Gay actor Zachary Quinto will star in the upcoming medical drama Wolf, and is joined by queer actor Aury Krebs in a supporting role! Wolf, inspired by an Oliver Sacks book series, follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto) and a team of interns as they delve into the depths of the human mind at work, all while taking care of their own lives and relationships. Krebs will play Dr. Dana Dang, a doctor and an influencer who became famous for providing online mental health tips. However, she has some mental health issues of her own to deal with as well. 8.) Only Murders in the Building actor Michael Cyril Creighton has been upped to series regular for the third season of the mystery-comedy series! Creighton, an out gay actor, plays Howard Morris, a queer resident of the building who often finds himself in the middle of the core team’s investigations. 9.) The incredibly queer band MUNA released a new song and music video this week titled “The One That Got Away” (and no, it’s not a cover of the Katy Perry song). The music video is equally queer, a story of (justified) murder that culminates with a lady-and-the-tramp-style kiss. We’re always excited to see what MUNA is doing, so go check out the new song/video!
10.) Queer pop sensation JORDY’s new album is out today! Titled Boy, the album delves in to JORDY’s personal life in a deeper way than any of his previous music. Check out Boy now, and read GLAAD’s interview with JORDY! In other music news this week, bisexual pop singer Samuel Warburton’s new single “Erewhon” is out now and bisexual singer Donna Missal has released a new single “Out of Me” with a music video, off her recently announced third studio album Revel. Additionally, out newcomer Jules Paymer has released the single “The Daughter That My Mother Wanted” featuring celebrated out artist Miki Ratsula; check out the music video! Finally, out artist Billy Porter’s new single “Baby Was a Dancer” is out now!
11.) Coffee Talk’s urban-fantasy café simulator and visual novel is back again with Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly! You, the barista, can create an array of new drinks and help comfort your customers’ through their personal woes. With a largely LGBTQ cast in the first installment, this new episode promises to deliver again with a game that is both chill and creative. Available now to purchase on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
12.) Gay gamers rejoice! Guerrila Games dropped a DLC pack for Horizon: Forbidden West yesterday, titled Burning Shores, which confirmed that Aloy, the main character of the franchise, is queer! In the DLC, Aloy meets Seyka, a rule-breaking Marine, and from their first encounter, Aloy is taken with her. Their relationship deepens thorughout the main storyline’s cut scenes, and eventually gamers are given the decision to kiss Seyka! On the mouth! Be sure to check out Burning Shores, available on Playstation 5 now!
12.) The Peabody Awards announced that bisexual actress and legend Lily Tomlin has won the Peabody Career Achievement Award. Tomlin has won to Peabody awards in the past, and joins an illustrious group of recent recipients of the Career Achievement Award. We can’t wait to see what Tomlin does next!
