Michael Pack
Former CEO, U.S. Agency for Global Media
—Authored several books, including Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything, which argues that widespread acceptance of gay culture could have harmful social effects. The introduction calls same-sex marriage by the epithet “sodomitical marriage.”
—As head of a nonprofit that oversees five entities, including Voice of America, Pack installed two anti-LGBTQ people to the board of directors: Jonathan Alexandre, senior counsel for governmental affairs division at the Liberty Counsel, an anti-LGBTQ legal organization designated a hate group by the SPLC; and anti-transgender activist Bethany Kozma.
—The Open Technology Fund, which Pack oversaw, reallocated funds at the organization in such a way as to endanger the lives of LGBTQ people worldwide.
—Said in a 1993 C-SPAN interview: “Harvard University is very concerned to make gay students comfortable but not Christians…. I’m not sure a university should go that far out of their way to make everybody comfortable.” He suggested that gay students intimidated others with something he called an “AIDS needle”: “I don’t think they should be given threats to be attacked by an AIDS needle and I think universities should look into those kinds of harassment tactics.”
The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people.
