Photographs and video from the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles may be found immediately at www.wireimage.com and www.glaad.org/mediaawards/recap.
The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for acceptance.
The 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will air exclusively on Logo on Monday, April 4 at 10:00 pm ET/PT. In addition to acceptance speeches and all of the night’s biggest moments, Carson Kressley will host Logo’s special coverage and backstage interviews with award recipients. John Gidding and Raymond Braun, creator of Instagram’s first LGBT video channel #VisibleMe, will bring viewers exclusive access inside the event as well as celebrity arrivals on the red carpet.
At the ceremony, Nick Jonas presented Demi Lovato with GLAAD's Vanguard Award, which is presented to media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.
Accepting the award, Lovato said, “I always knew that if I ever made it as a singer that I needed to use my voice for so much more than just singing.” She continued, “I always want [people] to know you should always love yourself for who you are … You can do it. Have no fear.”
Also at the event, surprise guest Taylor Swift presented actress Ruby Rose with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is presented to an LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance.
In her acceptance speech, Rose said, "Slowly but surely, year after year, I’ve watched the world change, and it’s evolving. And we’ve come such a long way. And that is because of GLAAD. GLAAD was there pushing the studios to do better, demanding that the LGBT community be represented.” She continued, “I’m just so blessed to have experienced both sides of this journey. To have searched endlessly for…someone I can relate to on TV – and then coming full circle and being in a show that I know has done the same thing for so many people.” Rose added, “I truly understand how important it is that we are not invisible. That young people everywhere can turn to the media and be included. Not treated like they do not or should not exist.”
Derek Hough and NeNe Leakes presented awards for Outstanding Reality Program to both I Am Cait and I Am Jazz. Jazz Jennings accepted the award for TLC's I Am Jazz, surrounded by her family. Caitlyn Jenner accepted the award for E!'s I Am Cait, and was joined onstage by several cast members from the show, as well as Executive Producer Andrea Metz and E! SVP of Original Programming and Development, Jeff Olde.
