The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Of an Age’ and ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ out now, trailers for ‘Who I Am Not’ and ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’, new music from Janelle Monáe, Ezra Williams, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) Of an Age, a queer coming of age film from gay director Goran Stolevski, is out in theaters! Set in the summer of 1999, the film follows a seventeen year old amateur ballroom dancer, who experiences an unexpected and intense 24-hour romance with his friend’s older brother. Check out the trailer below and find a theater near you today!

2.) Amazon Prime Video’s new romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know is now available on the streamer! The film’s protagonist Ally faces a major professional setback, sending her running to the comforts of her hometown. Here, Ally reconnects with her first love Sean and his soon-to-be wife Cassidy (queer Dope star Kiersey Clemons), who reminds her of the person she used to be. 3.) The first official trailer of Who I Am Not has debuted this week. The documentary, making its North American premiere next month at SXSW, aims to give a voice to the long ignored and mostly silent two percent of the world’s population: the intersex community. Sharonn-Rose Khumalo, a South African beauty queen, and Dimakatso Debidi, a male-presenting intersex activist, effectively shatter taboos through a personal exploration of truth, faith, and belonging. Their two unique stories provide an intimate look at the struggle of living in a male-female dominated world; find the trailer below!  

4.) Non-binary actor Emma Corrin has entered their villain era, as they join the cast of upcoming gothic vampire film Nosferatu and Marvel Studios’ long-anticipated Deadpool 3. Though character details for the projects remain underwraps, expect an alluring, horrifying, and blood-soaked reimagining of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film Nosferatu from director Robert Eggers and further adventures of the wisecracking mercenary Deadpool, alongside Corrin as the mysterious new villain. 

5.) Out trailblazer Billy Porter has been set to executive produce Black As U R, an emotionally charged award-winning documentary centering the misunderstandings of Black queerness and the transgender experience, directed by out filmmaker Micheal Rice. Both a contemporary and autobiographical film, the pic brings to the forefront often overlooked narratives of the LGBTQ community, via a look into the director’s own upbringing in the southern United States. 6.) Director Todd Phillips celebrated Valentine’s Day this week by revealing the first-look of out star Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à deux, part of DC Elseworlds franchise. Check out the picture below and watch the Joker sequel October 4, 2024!

7.) Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired the rights to romantic comedy The End of Sex, starring pansexual actress Emily Hampshire opposite Jonas Chernick. Directed by Sean Garrity, the film tells the story of a married couple (Hampshire and Chernick) that embark on a series of comic sexual adventures to reinvigorate their relationship while their children are away at camp for the very first time. 

8.) Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for their limited series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, set to premiere on May 4. The Bridgerton-verse prequel centers on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, telling the love story that changed the world: the young Queen’s marriage to King George. Lesbian actress Golda Rosheuvel reprises her role as the titular Queen, while newcomer India Amarteifio plays young Charlotte. Watch the trailer below! 

9.) Amazon Prime has revealed a first-look at their original series Dead Ringers, a six-episode remake of David Cronenberg’s 1988 feature. The series stars Rachel Weisz as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, two identical twin doctors who share everything from drugs and lovers to the desire to push the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to bring women’s healthcare to the forefront. In more TV news, Neil Patrick Harris’s gay romantic comedy series Uncoupled has been uncanceled, as season two heads to Showtime!

10.) Queer nonbinary performer Janelle Monáe is back and better than ever with the long-awaited release of single “Float.” Queer Boston-based rock duo Mediocre, comprised of Piper Torrison and Keely Martin, have released their lead single and video “To Know You’re Screwed is to Know a Lot”, off their upcoming EP To Know You’re Screwed, available April 7; pre-order and pre-save the EP today! Nonbinary singer-songwriter Ezra Williams has released the single “Deep Routed”, with an accompanying music video! Additionally, queer folk singer-songwriter Olive Klug has returned with their new single “Parched”; watch the music video below! Lastly, nonbinary singer-songwriter and Twitch influencer Annelle Staal has released the indie pop single “My Girl.”

11.) Gay Lucille Lortel Award-nominated actors Jose Llana and Conrad Ricamora have been set to reprise their lauded Off Broadway performances of Here Lies Love on Broadway, opening this summer. The immersive musical is based on the rise and fall of former Filipina First Lady Imedla Marcos, with Lana portraying her husband Ferdinand Marcos, the 10th president of the Philippines. Ricamora plays Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, a Philippine senator, opposition leader and Marcoses’ primary critics whose assassination in 1983 ignited the People Power Revolution.
