Doom Patrol returns to HBO Max this week for its fourth season. The DC comic adaptation follows the adventures of an idealistic mad scientist and his field team of superpowered outcasts as they become unlikely heroes. With the season’s introduction of major Doom Patrol villain General Immortus and the team traveling to the future, the everlasting question remains: which is more important, their own happiness or the fate of the world? The show features a number of queer characters, including Larry Trainor, played by gay actor Matt Bomer, and Clara Steele. Doom Patrol, Thursdays on HBO Max
His Dark Materials, HBO’s adaptation of Phillip Pullman’s wildly popular book trilogy of the same name, returns for its third and final season Monday. The series follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world, whose search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. Season three will introduce gay angels Balthamos (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith) and Baruch (Simon Harrison), who play an important role in the final book and should see that same importance in the series. Additionally, one of the animal characters, known in the story as “familiars,” is voiced by bisexual star Kit Connor. His Dark Materials, Mondays at 9pm on HBO
