Award-winning playwright Donja R. Love’s Write it Out! (WIO!) program is entering its third year and eagerly searching for its third cohort of writers.
Write it Out! is a free 10-week virtual playwright’s workshop specifically designed for people living with HIV (PLWHIV). Donja R. Love created the program in 2019 in order to provide a safe and affirming space for PLWHIV to explore the artistic creation of their narratives through a theatrical frame.
The program centers people living with HIV, aiming to not only help PLWHIV write and share their unique stories, but to also increase the number of stories being told about those living with HIV. The program offers unparalleled support and guidance for those who are among the least represented in entertainment (both on-screen and onstage).
Additionally, one of WIO!’s main goals is to increase overall visibility for PLWHIV: “By placing PLWHIV at its core, WIO! builds community for people of similar lived experiences to express themselves freely while amplifying the visibility of PLWHIV in the theatre and beyond. The intention of WIO! Is to use the power of imagination and healing to radically transform the landscape of theatre and those living with HIV.”
Applications for the 2022 WIO! program are due this Monday, August 8. Applicants of all writing levels are encouraged to apply, and all applications will be handled and reviewed with care and confidentiality.
This year’s program will run from September 22-December 2nd, and the workshops WIO! offers its selected cohort of writers will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 5PM-6:30PM EST. There will also be a final sharing of work, before the program ends, on Thursday, December 1.
