Gentleman Jack fans rejoice, Season 2 is back, and new episodes are available to watch now on HBO and HBO Max!
A period drama based in Yorkshire, 1834, Gentleman Jack follows Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle) as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple. Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous.
Season 2 will again use the real life diaries of Anne Lister – part of which were written in code.
GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos, sat down with the Creator/Writer/Executive Producer, Sally Wainwright, and the co-stars of Gentleman Jack, Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle, to discuss the show’s impact on the LGBTQ+ community and what to expect from the new season
“It makes a difference to be telling important stories…to feel like you’re making a mark with your work is wonderful,” says Jones on the show’s impact.
Rundle adds, “This is an insight into an extraordinary story…just by virtue of trying to live a truthful life, and try to be who they are, experienced discrimination and prejudice.”
On what’s to come, Jones shares: “We had the love story, we had the chase, we had them get married. So four months later, we see Anne Lister is looking after her wife…taking care of her mental health, which will be a journey for Anne Walker…by giving her the help and support she needs, she [Anne Lister] can set up their life.”
