Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) The trailer has been released for The Matrix Resurrections from trans filmmaker Lana Wachowski. The film also stars out actors Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff. The long-awaited sequel will be in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. In more film news, out actor Derek Jacobi will play the titular role in upcoming comedy Mr. Shaw Goes to Hollywood. Jacobi will play playwright George Bernard Shaw, when he visited Hollywood in 1933 for his play Pygmalion to be turned into a Hollywood film.
2) Surviving the Silence, a documentary following the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era, has been acquired by Virgil Films. The film follows Margarethe Cammermeyer, who was expelled from the military for being a lesbian, by Patsy Thompson, who was also a lesbian. The documentary follows the journey of these two women and the history of the case. Out actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson is one of the producers for new documentary Broadway Rising, which follows the reopening of Broadway after being shut down for eighteen months. It will be directed by Amy Rice.

3) The trailer has been released for HBO’s We’re Here, which follows drag queens Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela as they travel around the country and foster new drag performers and put on shows. The second season will be released October 11; watch the trailer below.
4) The third season of Netflix’s Sex Education released its official trailer this week. The teen comedy continues to tell the love story of gay characters Eric and Adam among the ensemble. The third season will be released on September 17. In more TV news, out actor Matt Bomer has been set to star in new Showtime series Fellow Travelers. The show will tell a romance between two men taking place over decades, starting in the McCarthy era and ending when HIV and AIDS took over the country. The show is from out creator Ron Nyswaner and based on the novel Fellow Travelers by out writer Thomas Mallon.
5) A trailer has been released for the second season of Star Trek: Picard, which will be released in February of 2022 on Paramount+. The trailer includes footage of the relationship between Seven of Nine and Raffi. The show was also renewed for a third season; watch the trailer below. Out producer Greg Berlanti will be producing the pilot for Dead Boy Detectives for HBO Max, alongside showrunner Steve Yockey, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schecter. The show will follow two dead men who investigate the supernatural on earth instead of going to the afterlife.
6) A trailer has been released for Unidentified with Demi Lovato, which follows the singer and actor as they explore the phenomena of UFOs with their best friend and sister. Watch the trailer below and catch the series September 30 on Peacock. Out actor and singer Beth Ditto has been cast in upcoming Fox series Monarch. The show follows a family of country music legends, and Ditto will play Gigi, their youngest daughter who still feels like an outsider.
7) Freeform has renewed Good Trouble for a fourth season. The spinoff of The Fosters features several queer characters in the ensemble including bisexual character Gael and lesbian character Alice. HBO Max has also renewed Gossip Girl for a second season. The show stars trans actress Zion Moreno and contains several queer characters. The remaining episodes of season one will be released in November

8) MUNA, the band composed queer members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson, released a new single “Silk Chiffon” featuring out singer Phoebe Bridgers. The video is an homage to the film But I’m a Cheerleader. Stream the track here and watch the video below!
9) Out singer Troye Sivan has released a new single “Angel Baby” on Thursday. Listen to the song here! Out singer Tasha released a new song and video “Perfect Wife” on Tuesday. 10) Non-binary artist G-Flip has released a new single, “Waiting Game” featuring artist renforshort. Listen to the single here and watch the music video for the song below! New song “The Anonymous Ones” has been released from the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack, performed by out actor Amandla Stenberg and SZA.
