The GLAAD Wrap: Trailers for ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,’ ‘The Nowhere Inn,’ ‘Dear White People,’ ‘The Other Two;’ new music from Ben Platt, Allison Ponthier, Ladyhawke and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) The official trailer has been released for The Nowhere Inn, the film written by and starring Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) and Carrie Brownstein. The film follows the two queer stars playing versions of themselves as Brownstein films a documentary about St. Vincent, before things start to unravel and go down a dark path. The film will be released in theaters and on demand on September 17; watch the trailer below.

2) A new trailer has been released for Amazon’s Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, an adaptation of the West End musical which follows a sixteen-year-old who dreams of being a drag queen. The film will be released on Amazon on September 17. The film adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s tick tick…BOOM! is set for opening night for AFI Fest. The movie follows protagonist Jon (Andrew Garfield) a composer who isn’t finding work, as well as his best friend Michael (out actor Robin de Jesus) a gay man who has chosen financial freedom over artistic passion. The film also stars Emmy nominee Michaela Jae (Mj) Rodriguez. It will be released in select theaters in November 12, and on Netflix November 19.

3) The cast has been rounded out for Andrew Ahn and Joel Kim Booster’s Fire Island, a gay romantic comedy inspired by Pride and Prejudice, starring Booster, Bowen Yang and Margaret Cho. The new cast members include out actors Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, Nick Adams, and more. In more casting news, out actor Sherry Cola has been cast in the upcoming R-rated comedy from filmmaker Adele Lim, which follows a group of friends traveling Asia in search of their birth mothers.

4) Out actors Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho will be the leads in an upcoming Hulu film from out director Sammi Cohen. The film follows Paige (Blanchard) an aspiring artist who is forced to join the track team, and uses the opportunity to pursue the girl she has a crush on, before she develops unexpected feelings for an elusive teammate (Cravalho). Out actor Alec Mapa has been cast in Peacock’s holiday film The Real Housewives of The North Pole. He will play Xander, the boss of a woman trying to write an expose on two women having a feud over Christmas decorations.

5) The trailer has been released for the second season of The Other Two, now on HBO Max. The show follows siblings Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (out actor Drew Tarver), who is gay, as they deal with the unexpected fame of their younger brother and then mother in the second season. The show comes from out writer Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider.

6) A teaser has been released for the fourth and final season of Netflix’s Dear White People. The show is from out creator Justin Simien and follows a group of Black students at college, including several queer characters. The final season will be released on September 22; watch the teaser below. Out actor Jaboukie Young-White has been cast as a recurring role in the upcoming HBO Max comedy from Issa Rae, Rap Sh**t. Young-White will play a music producer and former schoolmate of lead character Shawna.

7) The official trailer has been released for Q-Force, the animated queer superhero series from out creator Gabe Liedman, and starring out actors Sean Hayes, Wanda Sykes, Patti Harrison, and Matt Rogers. It will be released on September 2 on Netflix; watch the trailer below. Housebroken, the animated show from and starring out actor Clea DuVall, has been renewed for a second season by Fox. The show follows a group of neighborhood pets and stray animals working through their issues.

8) A teaser has been released for season three of Doom Patrol, which features Matt Bomer as gay superhero Negative Man. The third season will be released on HBO Max on September 3; watch the trailer below.  The trailer has been released for the sixth and final season of Netflix’s Lucifer. In addition to the title role being bisexual, the show also includes queer character Maze. The season will be released on September 10; watch the trailer here.

9) Out singer Ben Platt released his new album Reverie today. Click here to listen! Out singer May-A released her debut coming-of-age EP Don’t Kiss Ur Friends last week. Listen to the EP here! 10) Queer artist Ladyhawke released a new single and video “Think About You” off of her upcoming album Time Flies, which will be out on October 8. Pre-order the album here and watch the video below! 11) Out actor Beanie Feldstein will play the lead in the upcoming Broadway revival of Funny Girl. This is the first revival of the iconic show, and will feature a revised book by out Broadway writer and star Harvey Fierstein. It will begin performances in Spring 2022. In more musical news, out actor Titus Burgess has been cast in NBC’s Annie Live!, where he will play the role of Rooster. He joins a cast including, Taraji P. Henson, Harry Connick Jr. and Nicole Sherzinger. The show will air on December 2.

12) The nominations were announced for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. Out singer Lil Nas X has five nominations for his music video “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” Other queer nominees include girl in red for “Seratonin” in Push Performance of the Year for June; Miley Cyrus for “Prisoner” with Dua Lipa in Best Collaboration and Best Editing; Willow for “Transparent Soul” in Best Alternative; Demi Lovato for “Dancing with the Devil” in Video for Good; Lady Gaga for “911” in Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction; and Halsey & Marshmello for “Be Kind” in Best Choreography. The show will air live on September 12.
