As we head into Pride Month, it is critical to recognize the challenges and issues facing the LGBTQ community in the ongoing fight for full equality.
Since the start of this year, over 100 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in state legislatures across the country, most of them targeting transgender and non-binary people and youth. These bills seek to limit healthcare access, deny trans youth the ability to participate in school sports, and criminalize healthcare professionals and parents supporting their children’s well-being. According to the Human Rights Campaign, this marks the most anti-LGBTQ legislative session in their history of tracking.
The epidemic of violence targeting predominantly transgender women of color continues escalating, building on a year-over-year pattern of violence that made last year the deadliest on record. At this very critical moment in the fight for acceptance and equality, we must continue to stand in support of trans people and speak out against the fatal violence and discrimination facing the community.
This resource guide includes various ways to get educated, find and show support, and activate in solidarity with the trans community–this month and ongoing.
