1) Netflix’s new film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is out today, Dec. 18th! The film follows the life of legendary blues singer Ma Rainey, who was also queer. Watch the trailer below and catch the film on the streamer today! In other film news, the lineup for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival has been released. 2) In more film news, a VOD premiere date for gay rom-com Breaking Fast has been set for January 22, 2021. The film stars out actor Haaz Sleiman as Mo, a gay practicing Muslim who lives in West Hollywood, as he meets another gay man, Kal, and invites him to break his Ramadan fast with him each night. Watch the trailer below! In other film news, non-binary actor Quintessa Swindell is set to play the character of Cyclone in the upcoming DC and New Line superhero movie Black Adam. Cyclone is a junior member of the Justice Society with the power to manipulate wind and sound. In more film news, Twenties star Jojo T. Gibbs is set to star in the social thriller Fresh from Legendary Pictures. Her role in the film is under wraps at this time.
3) Out drag queens Jinkx Monsoon and BenDelaCreme’s holiday special, appropriately titled The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Special, is now available to stream on Hulu! The show features plenty of holiday cheer as the two queens plot a Yuletide show of their own with musical numbers, visual gags, and more. 4) A new trailer for the second season of Apple TV+ show Dickinson has been released. The second season follows the queer writer as she decides whether to bring her poetry to a wider audience or not, and the potential effects of fame on her life, her relationships, and her work. Watch the new trailer below and catch the return of the series on January 8, 2021! In more trailer news, the full trailer for Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix show Bridgerton has been released. The show, which features queer characters, will hit the streamer next week on Dec. 18. Watch the trailer here!
5) In Drag Race news, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has set a premiere date for season 2 and released the cast of new queens. The UK iteration of the franchise is set to premiere January 13, 2021 on the BBC Three iPlayer in the UK and WOW Presents Plus in the US; watch the announcement video below and catch the “Meet the Queens” videos on WOWPresents’ YouTube channel here. In more Drag Race news, a new trailer for RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 has been released. In the trailer, a new twist for the season is revealed! Watch the new video here. Additionally, the premiere of the newest season will be simulcast on home network VH1 and The CW Network, MTV, MTV2, PopTV and Logo on January 1, 2021.

6) In more TV news, HBO Max has set a premiere date for the fourth season of series Search Party. The show, which features out bisexual actor Alia Shawkat in the leading role with a number of queer supporting characters, will return on January 14, 2021 on the streamer. The series also has a new companion podcast Search Party: The Podcast, hosted by out SNL cast member Bowen Yang. With new episodes released every Monday and Wednesday starting this week, Yang will sit down with a Search Party co-creator, actor or writer as well as a celebrity fan to dissect specific themes from the show’s first three seasons. In more TV premiere date news, FX’s Snowfall has set a return date for its fourth season. The show, which features a lesbian couple as supporting characters, will air on the cable network on February 24, 2021.
7) In other TV news, Showtime will be airing a companion series called Shameless Hall of Shame alongside the final season of Shameless. Set to launch Sunday, Dec. 27, at 9 p.m., the six-episode series will feature new and original scenes from the series, juxtaposed with a retrospective look at each character’s journey over the past 10 seasons. Gay characters and fan-favorites Ian and Mickey are up first; watch the trailer for the final season below. In more TV news, The Flight Attendant has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max. The crime-mystery drama features a number queer supporting characters, including one played by TR Knight. Catch the first season on the streamer now!
8) In more TV news, out producer Greg Bertlanti is producing an adaption of M.K. England’s YA sci-fi adventure novel The Disasters for the CW. The book is described as The Breakfast Club meets Guardians of the Galaxy, and is set in a near-future where humans have colonized space to save Earth from the climate crisis. It follows a group of washouts from Earth’s prestigious military academy who are framed for treason and forced to go on the run to the Colonies to clear their names. In other TV development news, Sony Pictures Television is adapting out soccer star Megan Rapinoe’s memoir One Life as a scripted series. In the book, Rapinoe, co-captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team and an Olympic gold medalist, shares the story of her life and soccer career, starting from her younger years growing up in Redding, CA, to her sports stardom, which led her to travel around the world. 9) In other TV news, out actress Brianna Hildebrand has been cast in the upcoming final season of Netflix show Lucifer. The Trinkets star will play Rory, a rebellious and angsty angel hoping to follow in Lucifer’s footsteps. In other casting news, out actress Rosie O’Donnell is set to join Showtime’s forthcoming reboot of American Gigolo as a series regular. O’Donnell will play Detective Sunday, who learns that an open-and-shut murder case she solved 14 years ago is once again open. She restarts the investigation and is quickly left with more questions than answers as she falls down a rabbit hole of corruption, lies and political machinery.

10) Girl group Citizen Queen released a new video for their song “Call Me Queen.” Watch the video below! 11) Out actor Billy Porter, out actor Ben Platt, and out entertainer Peppermint, along with a number of other celebrities, have released a special recording and music video of the beloved song “Georgia On My Wind.” The song and video is meant to bring attention to the special Senate runoff election taking place in Georgia this January. Watch the video below! In more music news, out musician St. Vincent has announced she will be releasing a new album in 2021. The album is set to be a sonic shift for the artist, away from electronic “angularity” and more towards the early 70s funk, disco, and lite rock.
12) Marvel Comics has confirmed 
that Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star-Lord is a polyamorous bisexual in a new graphic novel. The legendary character enters into a throuple romance with an alien mixed-gender couple while stuck on their planet. Star-Lord is played in the MCU by Chris Pratt; there is no word yet whether this aspect of the character will be incorporated into the films. The next comic book issue, Guardians of The Galaxy #10, is set to release early January 2021.
13) Netflix has announced a brand new virtual event, “The Prom: Tonight Belongs to You,” a livestream celebration this Saturday, December 19, inspired by Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix movie The Prom. Hosted by out Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness, the event will feature a special headlining performance from out musician Janelle Monáe, followed by a full DJ set from Galantis, and guest appearances by the cast members. In more virtual event news, The American Pops Orchestra is joined by some of your favorite queens on December 19 for “Drag Out the Holly: A Holiday Drag Extravaganza.” A concert broadcast filmed live at Meridian International Center, “Drag Out the Holly” features performances by RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Alexis Michelle, Jujubee, and Peppermint, along with NYC queen Lagoona Bloo. 14) In other event news, the 7th annual Ally Coalition concert event will be streamed on Jack Antonoff’s Twitch channel on Monday, Dec. 21. LGBTQ-inclusive performers include St. Vincent, Clairo, Brittany Howard, Muna, Shamir, Sleater-Kinney, Rufus Wainwright, Claud, and Kalen Allen. All proceeds go to homeless LGBTQ youth shelters. In more virtual event news, an audio recording of Shakina Nayfack’s world premiere play Chonburi International Hotel & Butterfly Club will be available on Audible December 29. The play follows a group of vibrant, international transgender women who band together at a hotel in Thailand to confront the challenges and joys of gender confirmation surgery.
