On October 29 at 8pm EST, join GLAAD Media Institute alum Germono Touissant and his organization A Mile In My Shoes for a livestream reading of the musical The Last Gatekeeper completely for free. You can register for the event here.
The Last Gatekeeper is based on the term “Gatekeeper,” used in indigenous communities, to describe people who express themselves as same-gender-loving and maintain the portals between the physical and spiritual world. This show takes place following an apocalypse, and revolves around a character named Nandi and her son, Soku, who she believes is same-gender-loving.
GLAAD Media Institute alum Germono Touissant has been developing The Last Gatekeeper over the course of the last two years, and contributed original sound designs and orchestrations to this premiere. Additionally, the reading is directed by John-Martin Green, incorporates illustrations by Brianna Osaseri, original choreography by Germaul Barnes, and vocal arrangements by Crystal Monee Hall.
The reading livestream will take place at 8pm EST on Thursday, October 29th, and is supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. You can learn more about the show here and register for your free ticket here.
Germono Touissant attended a free, public GLAAD Media Institute workshop in New York City, learning some tried-and-true methods from GLAAD to accelerate acceptance through the media. You can learn more about the GLAAD Media Institute here, and sign up for a free virtual workshop in the future, including one on November 20th.
