Celebrate bisexuality+ with GLAAD for #BiVisibilityDay at the end of #BiWeek 2020

Bisexual+ Visibility Day (sometimes known as Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day) takes place on September 23rd, to honor the Bisexual+ community. It is also the last day of BiWeek. Here is some of the work that GLAAD did to celebrate BiWeek 2020.

Miss Utah sits down for an interview

Rachel Slawson, who is Miss Utah, sits down for an interview with GLAAD’s Anthony Ramos to talk about being the first openly bisexual+ woman to compete in the Miss USA pageant. In the video, Slawson talks about being bisexual+ and how she’s learned to understand her identity and the obstacles she’s overcome as a bi+ woman.

GLAAD takes over Spotify’s Out Now playlist for BiWeek

GLAAD worked with Spotify to create a special BiWeek version of their ‘Out Now’ playlist, with exclusively bisexual+ artists. Take a listen and bop to some great bi+ artists like Rina Sawayama, Keiynan Lonsdale, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, and many more.

NEONxGLAAD talks bi+ erasure, representation, and self-love

Black bi+ people represent one of the most rapidly growing populations in the United States. NEONxGLAAD talks to David J Cork, Jenell Randall, and Rafi D’Angelo about being bisexual+, how bi erasure has affected them, and their hopes for better representation in the future.

On September 16th, the GLAAD Media Institute hosted Media Advocacy Essentials for Bisexual+ People online for anyone to join. The workshop shared some of GLAAD’s tried-and-true methods for talking about bisexuality+ accurately, how to share stories that have impact, and the state of bi+ representation in the media. Lilia Buckingham takes over GLAAD’s Twitter

Actor Lilia Buckingham took over GLAAD’s Twitter account on September 16th as a part of the ongoing amp U series. Buckingham talked about how she struggled to understand her identity, some of the negative responses she faced, but ultimately how she learned to love her bisexual+ identity.

Former Campus Ambassador Gianna-Collier Pitts honors #BiVisibilityDay

Former GLAAD Campus Ambassador Gianna Collier-Pitts, who launched a petition to Make Wonder Woman Bisexual+ took over GLAAD’s Twitter account to honor Bisexual+ Visibility Day to close out BiWeek 2020. Collier-Pitts talked about her bi+ identity as well as some of her work to accelerate acceptance for the Bi+ community.

Bi+ GLAAD Media Institute Alumni say #BiWillVote

The Bisexual+ community faces immense disparities in mental health, intimate partner violence, and even income inequality. This year, a few GLAAD Media Institute alumni talked about why it is so important to vote. Check out this video from alum Kyndal Jackson (and her pal George) about why she is turning out to vote this year as a bi+ person.

BiWeek is a time to honor and celebrate the Bisexual+ community. It’s also important to make sure that bi+ people are being seen, heard, and understood year-round. The goals and objectives of BiWeek don’t end just because the calendar turns to September 24th, nor does the fight to accelerate acceptance.

Annually, from September 16-23, join GLAAD, the Bisexual Resource Center, and Still Bisexual in recognizing the bisexual+ community for Bisexual Awareness Week, culminating in Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day on September 23.
