RuPaul’s Drag Race is premiering its 12th season on Friday, February 28th. Many queens have launched successful careers from this show over the years, such as Shangela, Trixie Mattel, and Bianca Del Rio. Drag is most authentic though when experienced in the live venues these queens came up in — bars, clubs and anywhere that people will tip. Now, thanks to progress in queer representation in media as a whole, and the globalization of drag culture via RuPaul’s Drag Race, touring drag queens have the world at their fingertips and are probably coming soon to a performance venue near you!
In 2020, the list of touring queens is continuing to grow as The Vixen, Violet Chachki, BenDeLaCreme, and more host tours in the U.S. and internationally. Here are some of the biggest upcoming drag tours to look forward to in 2020.
The Vixen – Black Girl Magic Tour
RPDR S10
The Vixen – Black Girl Magic
Since her season on Drag Race, The Vixen has demonstrated an impeccable eye for avant-garde fashion and a fiery passion for supporting her community. During The Vixen’s time on the RPDR, she highlighted the racial inequality that still remains prevalent in many corners in the drag community. As her name suggests, The Vixen was not afraid to get confrontational on RPDR in her championing of racial equality. Post-RPDR, The Vixen has continued her promotion of Black excellence via the Black Girl Magic tour. Throughout February, The Vixen hosted a Black history month edition of Black Girl Magic with the final show happening on the same night as the Season 12 premiere in San Diego, CA. Featuring queens like Bob the Drag Queen, Monique Heart, Bebe Zahara Benet, Peppermint and more, be sure to follow The Vixen to keep up with all future Black Girl Magic affiliated tour announcements. In the meantime, catch these queens on the Nubia tour on March 5 & 6 in Brooklyn, NY.
Trixie Mattel – Grown Up
RPDR S7, All Stars S3 Winner
Grown Up
Post-RPDR Trixie Mattel has found success with multiple YouTube shows, a cosmetics line, and a rigorous touring history. Her most ambitious tour yet will feature music from her new album “Barbara,” stand-up comedy, and her signature Barbie aesthetic. On March 15th, Trixie will conclude the U.S. leg of the Grown Up tour with a brief hiatus until the European leg begins April 28th. Grown Up runs from February 26th to June 3rd. Also see Trixie on tour this summer in Australia and New Zealand with her Unhhhh co-star Katya
Violet Chachki – A Lot More Me
RPDR S7 Winner
A Lot More Me
Violet Chachki has been heralded as one of the best “look queens” ever from RuPaul’s Drag Race, achieving major success in the global fashion industry following her win on Season 7. Chachki’s debut North American tour, A Lot More Me, will be expanding on that image, showcasing her strengths in not only drag and fashion, but also burlesque and circus performance. A Lot More Me runs from April 21st to May 31st.
BenDeLaCreme – Ready to Be Committed
RPDR S6, All Stars S3
Ready to Be Committed
BenDeLaCreme’s run on All Stars S3 proved her to be one of drag’s brightest and most dynamic stars, right up until her iconic self-elimination. Ready to Be Committed was written, directed and self-produced by BenDeLaCreme and follows her on a journey to the altar. It will include comedy, dance, singing and puppets. Following an engagement in Provincetown last summer, Ready to Be Committed runs from April 14th to June 15th.
