It may be the weekend, but it’s still #BiWeek! Make sure to take some time to rest and relax, but continue to support bi+ people by catching up on a few of these streaming shows that have iconic bi+ characters:
Zoe Kravitz plays Rob in the TV adaptation of High Fidelity. In the series, she documents her relationships and breakups. While she never labels her sexuality, she forms genuine connections with men and women. If you’re looking for a new, underrated show to binge, now is the time to watch High Fidelity on Hulu.
Bisexual actress Stephanie Beatriz plays Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In the fifth’s season 10th episode, Rosa comes out as bisexual to her colleagues and eventually her family. The emotional episode is among the best coming out on TV and shows the importance of chosen family. Watch it on Hulu.
ARE YOU THE ONE
MTV’s Are You The One broke ground when it featured an entirely open bi+ cast for its eighth season. Reality dating shows are notorious for leaving the LGBTQ community out, but the GLAAD Media Award-winning series Are You The One reversed that narrative and gave us great TV.
SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT
Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It stars DeWanda Wise as a pansexual, polyamorous woman living in Brooklyn. The series from Spike Lee is based on his 1986 movie of the same name. If you love She’s Gotta Have It, check out Wise in Netflix’s film Someone Great.
THE BOLD TYPE
Aisha Dee plays Kat Edison on Freeform’s The Bold Type, who comes out as bisexual to her friends and family in season 3. The Bold Type doesn’t gloss over the complexities of being bisexual and instead lifts them up in a genuine way. Stream it on Hulu.
Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar has made Black LGBTQ narratives more visible. One of the main characters in the show, Nova (played by out actress Rutina Wesley), is bisexual.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
How To Get Away With Murder may be over, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate Annalise Keeting (Viola Davis)’s bisexual narrative. Throughout the series’ five seasons, Annalise formed genuine, healthy relationships with men and women. Watch it on Netflix.
If you need an excuse to go back and watch old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy well now is your chance. Just skip right to season 2 where Sara Ramierez’s Callie Torres comes in. Stream it on Netflix.
Annually, from September 16-23, join GLAAD, the Bisexual Resource Center, and Still Bisexual in recognizing the bisexual+ community for Bisexual Awareness Week, culminating in Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day on September 23.
Co-founded by GLAAD, Bisexual+ Awareness Week seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, fluid, no label, queer, etc.) community. #BiWeek draws attention to the experiences, while also celebrating the resiliency of, the bisexual+ community.
Throughout #BiWeek, allies and bi+ people learn about the history, culture, community, and current policy priorities of bi+ communities.
