The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominees for the 27th Annual SAG Awards, scheduled to air on April 4, 2021. Included in the list are a handful of knock out LGBTQ-inclusive television shows, movies, and performances that capture a snippet of the diverse experiences and stories within the queer community.
Schitt’s Creek is leading the charge in television with 5 SAG Awards nominations this year, including one nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and a nomination for out actor Dan Levy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.The cast of HBO’s Lovecraft Country was recognized for their work with a nomination in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category.Dead to Me also received an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series nomination. Linda Cardellini received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for portraying the bisexual character Judy Hale in the show.The cast of the queer Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which includes out actor Colman Domingo, received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The incomparable Viola Davis received an individual Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role nomination for portraying the film’s titular character – queer Harlem Renaissance performer Ma Rainey.Last, but certainly not least, Kerry Washington received an Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of bisexual artist Mia Warren in Hulu’s adaptation of the novel Little Fires Everywhere.
